Kalysta Joy was our main house rabbit for the past 3 years. She was originally found in a box near a dumpster with what appeared to be a broken leg. It turned out that who ever had her, allowed her to suffer for 2 months with having a broken hip, ankle, foot and leg. During those 2 months I have no idea how she stayed alive. By the time she was rescued the leg had healed and set into the out stretched position you see from these pictures. Though didn't slow her her down one bit. She throughout her live was the perfect feisty bunny she could be. Given full house rights, Kalysta Joy enjoyed a life of pampering and treats. Sharing countless nights of "movie time" cuddled between us snuggled in a blanket for the whole movie. She pretty much had us wrapped around her paw.
During our music nights, Kalysta could be found center stage of the living room rug, at the feet of her papa, while he played his guitar. She would lay there for the duration of his practice. She particularly loved songs by Bob Dylan and Lynyrd Skynyrd "Simple Man".
We just had to put her down after her fragile over work "good leg" couldn't take the stress of all her running around and house adventures. She suddenly broke the femur of her good leg. After rushing her to the Cornell Vet Hospital, it was explained to us that she had arthritis in her spine and legs and osteopeina as well. The only option she had was a difficult surgery with pins and plates to try to put the fragile bones in her leg back together. Months of painful recovery and at the end of it no guarantee of success. We could not put our girl through more pain, after all she come through. On January 26, 2016, Kalysta left this world to find our other bunnies (Onyx, King Arthur and Malaya) that had crossed the bridge already. We will miss you so much our little penquin.
